No. 03   Our story

Our story

Born from a single conversation. Built on a calling.

Lives Transformed is a faith-inspired nonprofit based in La Jolla that began the way most worthwhile things do: with one person who could not look away. We work with women, girls and families that the rest of the world is content to forget.

How a single afternoon in October became a foundation.

The founding

In October of 2023, Noelle Hallman sat across from a Nigerian bishop she had only just met. He told her about the villages he was serving. He told her about the girls who had been taken, and the widows who had been left behind, and the children who were sleeping on dirt floors a hundred miles from the nearest doctor. He told her about Boko Haram, and the funerals, and the long quiet stretches when no one came.

She knew she had to do something.

By the end of that year, Lives Transformed existed on paper. By the end of the next, it was already in motion — a small safe house, a vocational center, a clinic on the road, a hundred widows with a chicken coop between them. Today, three years on, what began as one woman's response to a calling reaches thousands of lives across Nigeria.

Our convictions

Four things we believe, and refuse to compromise on.

Every program, every dollar, and every decision is run through these. They are not aspirations. They are the floor.

i.

Community first.

We work alongside Nigerian communities — never above them. Solutions are locally led, locally owned, and built to outlast our involvement.

ii.

Lasting change.

We invest in long-term transformation: education, economic empowerment, and healing. Relief without restoration is not enough.

iii.

Restoring & relaunching lives.

Our skills center is a safe haven for girls rescued from trafficking. Through therapy, hair braiding, garment sewing, and small-business mentorship, every girl who passes through leaves with a livelihood and a sense of who she is.

iv.

Radical transparency.

One hundred percent of every donation goes directly to programs. Not one cent of your gift covers our overhead — that is paid for separately by our founding partners.

Leadership

The people who put their names on this.

A small board, intentionally — chosen for the experience they bring and the work they have done already, elsewhere. They are the people you should ask if you want to know whether we can be trusted.

Bishop Chinedu Collins Nwoye.

The man whose first conversation with Noelle started all of this. Bishop Collins oversees three hundred and fifty churches in Nigeria and has spent his life at the intersection of ministry and humanitarian service. Drawing on a background in government, he leads every Lives Transformed program on the ground — and is recognized across the country for his annual widows' conferences, which provide financial stipends and protective garments to more than five thousand widows each year.
